The Strengths of The Shining
One of the strengths of ”The Shining” is the way that King builds tension and creates a sense of dread throughout the story.
The eerie atmosphere of the Overlook Hotel and the strange occurrences that the family experiences keep the reader on edge from beginning to end.
The sense of isolation and helplessness that the family feels in the face of the hotel’s malevolent forces is palpable. And readers will find themselves rooting for the family to survive.
Jack Torrance is a complex and fascinating character. And his descent into madness is one of the most memorable aspects of the novel.
An Excellent Job
King does an excellent job of portraying Jack’s inner struggles and the demons that haunt him, making his eventual breakdown all the more tragic.
Wendy and Danny are also well-drawn characters, with their own fears and insecurities that make them feel like real people.
The supernatural elements of the story are both terrifying and intriguing. Then, the ghosts that haunt the hotel are not just mindless monsters. But have their own agendas and motivations that add depth and complexity to the story.
